so i was listening to otis redding "try a little tenderness" and towards the end the song just got me going. i was straight in the middle of working and couldnt resist. i just kept visualized a tap dance to it. so i got up and dug around for my tap shoes, pulled them out and started the magic...
while tap; the traditional tap dancing i was taught is a little more extensive, technical and usually has more sounds at a faster pace, this song didnt inspire me to "technically tap" ie - bust out all the "fancy and speedy moves i know" lol. instead it inspire me to feel and groove to the music.
tap is still beautiful with simple moves. it can be classic and also unrefined.
i just whipped this piece up real quick and had kendrix film it for me. you can see i am not showing near as much passion as i felt while first doing/experiencing it in my living room a couple hours before hand(nor am i doing it full out).the sound and music sucks but i still wanted to share the fact to always try something you are feeling at that very moment.
especially as an artist. explore more. it may or may not be your next master piece. and thats okay. dont let pressure of each and every piece be that. let the art and creativity ooze out and you will learn from each experience because you were supposed to. it was in you and you had enough sense to follow through and let that artistic energy pour out. even if it was only for a mere moment. i know many writers do this. just jotting down words or phrases. same thing here :)
just that experience alone, brought me to a whole nother level as an artist.
thank you feet. thank you MS Kay! thank you otis, thank you mom and dad for giving me all the opportunities i have been able to learn from dance.
i am SO VERY GRATEFUL

ReplyDeleteOtis, my man!
ReplyDelete"follow through and let the energy pour out... if only for a moment..." yes! Steam-of-consciousness is not just for writers... all of us can do it in different creative ways.
some will 'catch hold', most will fall away. just create. reminds me of Jesus' parable of the farmer sowing seeds.
BTW - I have a blogspot as well. Though I haven't written in it in a few years, some of the stuff is still cool... you might like the "There is a field" post on the first page: http://trevdiesel.blogspot.com/
